Liberian Ambassador Strengthens South South Ties In Rabat

Rabat, April 8, 2026 – In a series of high-level consultations, H.E. Joseph F. Johnson, Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to the Kingdom of Morocco, met with H.E. Mawadda Omar Haj Al-Toum El Badawi, Ambassador of Sudan, and H.E. Jose Filipe, Ambassador of Angola. These strategic dialogues mark a significant step in Liberia’s mission to harmonize African diplomatic efforts and promote regional self-reliance.

African Problems Require African Solutions

he Ambassadors reached a consensus on the guiding principle that Africa’s stability and economic integration must be driven by intra-African solidarity and proactive diplomacy. Ambassador Johnson emphasized that continental unity is essential for Africa to assert its voice in global decision-making.

Key Strategic Outcomes

  • Revitalizing the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC): Together with Ambassador El Badawi, Ambassador Johnson called for transforming the ADC in Rabat from social gatherings into a substantive body. They proposed direct sessions with Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address pressing issues such as the welfare of African students and regional security in the Sahel and Horn of Africa.
  • Solidarity in Peace and Security: Ambassador Johnson reaffirmed Liberia’s unwavering support for Sudan’s peace and sovereignty, pledging continued advocacy within the African Union and UN Security Council.
  • Strengthening Historic Ties with Angola: In dialogue with Ambassador Filipe, the envoys reflected on shared liberation-era bonds and stressed the importance of South-South cooperation, particularly in presenting a unified African front at the UN General Assembly.
  • Continental Education and Mobility: The Ambassadors endorsed the visionary idea of an African University of Political and Diplomatic Studies to cultivate an “African way of thinking.” They also championed enhanced mobility across the continent, including expanded visa-free travel to boost trade under the AfCFTA.

Bilateral Economic Cooperation

Agriculture emerged as a central pillar of collaboration. The Ambassadors confirmed their participation in the upcoming International Agriculture Fair (SIAM) in Meknes, with discussions focusing on:

  • Leveraging Sudan’s expertise in large-scale farming.
  • Angola’s role in fertilizer trade.
  • Joint technical exchanges and investment initiatives to strengthen food security.

Institutional Excellence

The consultations also addressed the importance of institutional sustainability. Ambassador Johnson and his peers discussed transitioning from rented chanceries to state-owned properties, ensuring a permanent and dignified presence for their nations in Morocco.

“No global decision can be made without the voice of Africa,” stated Ambassador Johnson. “Through these partnerships with Sudan and Angola, Liberia is committed to building a synchronized diplomatic front that ensures our continent’s unity and respect on the world stage.”
