Within the spirit of the south-south cooperation envisioned by His Majesty, King Mohammed IV (may Allah assist him), Morocco will launch the first ANCA Cybersecurity Executive Program in bustling Rabat this week 9June 1-5, 2026). I must say, a huge thank you to those who made this event happen – pulling so many sharp minds into one room must not have been easy. Right now, things stand at a turning point across Africa. A deep shift in digital life has begun here. Mobile money changes everything; government systems go online faster every day, health systems are digitized so dramatically that suddenly, people link up in ways that seemed out of reach just years ago. Yet building these powerful networks brings another truth into view – as progress opens new doors, it also leaves windows open elsewhere.

Years went by before anyone outside tech circles paid attention. Now things have shifted, clearly. Not just servers at risk – entire nations feel the pressure when systems wobble. Money moves, trust shakes, data is breached, control slips without strong guards online. Should hackers breach a hospital’s records, mess with banking systems, or strike essential services, what slips isn’t only information – confidence among people begins to fade, so does national balance. A single flaw in digital defenses might quietly unravel much more than code. Lives depend on these systems staying intact, working without suspicion creeping in.
The real damage hides behind the screen: shaken faith, weakened order. One country alone cannot lock down its online borders anymore. When a network fails in West Africa, trouble often spreads fast into North, South and East Africa. Because of moments like these, how nations trade and work together has to change with technology. The way countries support each other needs new thinking for today’s threats. I would encourage us to start thinking differently about isolated security setups. Because when dangers connect quickly, our answers need to link up just as fast. Instead of standing apart, efforts should flow together – matching speed, matching reach.

The way ahead looks more like a web than separate walls. Building real control over digital systems means African countries must act fast on all fronts from the jump, aligning laws across borders sets the stage. When rules match up, moving threat data between nations just flows easier.

Here’s something to think about as a way forward: heavy investment in people becomes essential at this point. Initiatives such as this leadership program in my view, act like little triggers – small but powerful enough to start change. Stronger defenses matter less without clear thinking at the top.

What truly shifts things is governments that see security not as an afterthought, but woven into every plan guiding the nation’s direction. Last of all, strength grows when people stand together. Security takes root through cooperation – linking government bodies, businesses, and global partners so that if one comes under fire, others step in without delay.

This week’s meetings matter. This space can become more than talk – a place where real ties take shape, where networks are developed and clear results emerge, one step at a time. Security for Africa’s online world grows from choices made today. Roads exist already, built in code and connection. Holding them steady, keeping control local, depends on what happens when people act together. Not later. Now. Appreciation goes out to leadership of Director General of the DGSSI (Direction Générale de la Sécurité des Systèmes d’Information) under the astute leadership of Brigadier General Abdellah Boutrig, while thanking the organizers and being confident the this week will be a success. A good outcome rests on how things unfold each day.

I look forward to a beautiful week and I look forward to meeting our African community of cybersecurity executives.
I Thank You
