Liberia reaches a historic milestone by joining the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, presented from the Liberian Diplomatic Mission in Rabat an ambitious vision for the year 2026, marked by the reform of the foreign service and economic diplomacy.

A Historic Seat at the Security Council

Securing a seat at the UNSC represents a major international recognition for Liberia. The Minister recalled that this responsibility goes beyond the mission in New York: all Liberian diplomatic representations worldwide are now called upon to contribute real-time analyses and information to inform the country’s positions and votes.

To symbolize this new era, the Ministry announced that official letterheads will now bear the United Nations Security Council logo, thus enhancing Liberia’s visibility and prestige on the international stage.

Reform and Professionalism

The Minister emphasized the « Standard of Excellence » expected from every diplomat. Three major axes were highlighted:

  • Professionalism and confidentiality: zero tolerance for any breach of sensitive information protection.
  • Foreign service reform: 2026 roadmap to improve operational support, notably in transportation and staff insurance.
  • Financial responsibility: end of unauthorized expenses and rapid transfer of collected payments.

Diplomacy as an Economic Driver

The 2026 strategy places economic diplomacy at the heart of external action. Each Liberian mission is now mandated to attract investments and develop commercial partnerships, with the direct objective of job creation in Liberia.

« Liberia’s seat at the Security Council is not just a place at the table; it is a testament to the world’s confidence in our progress, » declared the Minister. « Every diplomat, from Monrovia to Tokyo, is now an essential part of our Nation’s security and economic future. »

Strengthened Coordination

The meeting concluded with the welcoming of the new Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and a call for better coordination between missions and the Public Affairs department, to ensure a unified and impactful global message.
