The National Port Authority (NPA) has signed a landmark agreement with Tanger Med Engineering of Morocco to modernize the Freeport of Monrovia and Buchanan Port. The deal, formalized in Tangier, will implement a Master Plan to upgrade Liberia’s port infrastructure to international standards, including container terminals, smart logistics, and security systems, aiming to boost trade and economic growth.
A delegation from Monrovia, Liberia, headed by the National Port Authority’s MD, Hon Sekou Dukuly was in Tangier to seal the deal. The delegation included: Hon. Momo Cyrus, Hon Sekou Kanneh and Hon Austin Taylor. HE Joseph F Johnson, Ambassador to Morocco attended and witnessed the signing ceremony
Tanger Med port is a significant logistical hub on the Strait of Gibraltar. The Tanger Med Group oversees the port complex, which includes « Tanger Med Port 1 », the « Passenger and Ro-Ro Port », and « Tanger Med Port 2. » Within this structure, the Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) plays a key role in the development and management of the port complex. Within the port, various terminal operators such as APM Terminals and Marsa Maroc manage specific terminals within the port under concession agreements.
In his remarks, Ambassador Johnson lauded the farsightedness of the NPA management under its current Managing Director and encouraged NPA to adapt the model of Tanger Med Port
