Commemorating the 31st Anniversary of the Genocide Against the Tutsis in Rwanda: A Renewed Commitment to Remembrance and Peace

His Excellency Ambassador Joseph F. Johnson joined fellow Ambassadors from around the world in a solemn ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda.

In just 100 days in 1994, more than one million Tutsis were brutally killed—an unimaginable tragedy and one of the darkest moments in modern history.

On this day of remembrance, we honored the memory of the victims, stood in solidarity with the survivors, and reaffirmed our shared resolve to prevent such atrocities from ever happening again.

The ceremony served as a solemn reminder of our collective duty to remain vigilant. “Never again” must not remain a slogan—it must be a universal pledge to defend human dignity, promote peace, and uphold justice everywhere in the world, especially on the African continent.
